It’s the local public summer camp for Oakland, NJ residents.  We offer a day program for incoming Kindergarten through Fifth grades and a traveling camp for grades sixth through incoming ninth.
 
 
Q:  What is the difference between Open Camp and Day Camp? 

Day Camp receives several activities brought to the site, and will have various recreational activities to fill up the day.  Such activities brought in are water slides, obstacle courses, interactive blow up rides, etc.  Various activities include tennis baseball, kickball, street hockey, baggo, blongo, freeze tag, capture the flag, etc. 
 
 Open Camp is usually only on site to organize into groups, get on to the buses and travel to the trips we have scheduled.  If there is time they have various recreation activities as well.
Open Camp will have space availability in each of the 6 weeks for 150 campers.
 
 
Q:  When does the Oakland Rec Summer Camp run?  

        MONDAY JUNE 26 THRU FRIDAY AUGUST 4 , 2017
 
 
Q:  What are the hours?  

Camp hours are 9AM-3PM.
  No camper can be signed in prior to 9AM
Open Camp may start earlier and end later due to several major trips. 
Those times will be announced as the trips are confirmed.
 
 
Q:  Is the Oakland Rec Summer Camp open when it rains?  

Yes, we seek shelter in the Valley Middle School that is just across the road from our home base.
 
 
Q:  What happens if rain is forecasted and Open Camp has an outdoor trip scheduled?  

If it is raining in Oakland, NJ and not where the trip is located, the trip is on.  If it is raining at both sites, the trip will be cancelled, we will have activities in the middle school/Danny D.  If the trip is an indoor location, the trip is on.  If there are admission tickets available for the trip, each camper will receive their ticket voucher and will be available for use on their own time. 
 
 
Q:  What is served for lunch, how much does it cost?  

For Day Camp:  Lunch will be $16 & Lunch Plus will be $19 in week two.  
Lunch will be $20 & Lunch Plus will be $25 in weeks one , three and four.
Lunch will be $20 & Lunch Plus will be $24 in weeks five, and six.
 
  You pay only one week at a time.  If you're registering for both sessions or first session, please only submit a lunch form for week one at the time you register.  If you're registering for the second session, please submit a lunch form for week 4.  The lunch program is entirely optional, you may also pack lunch for your child(ren).
For Open Camp:  OPEN CAMP LUNCH(go to LINKS and click open camp icon.  On our Wednesday/Friday trips , the trip fee will included a meal voucher/pre-paid lunch for each camper.
 
 
Q:  When is the weekly Day Camp lunch order due by?

                                                                                                Q:  How do I register?  
 

As of now we are only doing live registration sessions.  Please come with the forms completed, but if paying by check, please do not fill it out until meeting with a camp employee so that they confirm an amount and who the check needs to be made out to.  Mistakes happen, and people forget to bring extra checks with them.

Camper Apparel:  T-Shirts:  $10  Sling Bags:  $10

 

Q: How can I pay for registration?


You can pay by money order, cash, or check.  
The borough does not accept credit cards at this time.  
If writing a check,all session/weekly fees can be made out to the
Borough of Oakland.  
 
 
 
 
All lunch, apparel, and trip fees can be made out to the
 Sports Association of Oakland.  
Please make sure you bring more than just two checks in case of an error.
 

Q:  Where do I park to drop off and pick-up my child(ren)? 


    Day Camp parents/guardians of kindergarten and first grade campers can use the lower lot by the hockey rink. 
 
 Day Camp parents/guardians of second through fifth grade campers can use the main lot by Field # 1. 
 
Open Camp parents/guardians may use the Danny-D parking lot.
 

Q:  Can I pick them up early?  


For day campers, you may come to the camp office, sign them out and we will call them over from where they are on the camp site to the office. 
 
For open campers, you may pick them up early if they are back from their trip and are at the Danny D building or VMS if it is raining.
 

Q:  Can I drop them off late?  


For day campers, you may drop them off at anytime during the day, sign them in at the office and we will have a counselor or junior counselor come and pick them up and bring them over to drop their stuff off, then bring them to whatever activity they are participating in.  For open campers, if there is a scheduled bus time,
you may not just drop them off in the middle of the day at the camp site.
 
 
Q:  If I register my child(ren) and don’t attend camp, can I receive a refund?
 

It will take special circumstances to receive a refund.  We have a "NO REFUND " policy that exists across all recreational activities/sports.  These are the only special circumstances that people may receive a refund:

1)    YOUR FAMILY IS MOVING OUT OF OAKLAND DURING THE TIME YOUR CHILD WAS SIGNED UP TO ATTEND CAMP.

2)    AN ILLNESS/SICKNESS/ MEDICAL DISABILITY THAT PROHIBITS THE CHILD FROM ATTENDING CAMP DURING THE TIME YOUR CHILD WAS SIGNED UP TO ATTEND CAMP.

3)    A FAMILY CRISIS THAT PROHIBITS THE CHILD FROM ATTENDING CAMP DURING THE WEEKS THAT THEY WERE SIGNED UP TO ATTEND CAMP.

4)    LOSS OF EMPLOYMENT BY THE PARENT(S)/LEGAL GUARDIAN(S) THAT PROHIBITS THE CHILD FROM ATTENDING CAMP DURING THE WEEKS THAT THEY WERE SIGNED UP TO ATTEND CAMP.

ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE CONTINGENT ON PROPER DOCUMENTATION FROM A CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN, LAWYER, AND/OR EMPLOYER .

 

Q:  How do I contact ORSC administration?  


Best way to contact the administration is through email during the off-season.  Our phone system is only up and running during the six weeks that camp is held. 
 

Q:  What my day camp child can/cannot wear?


Anything the campers can run around in and can potentially get dirty in, because it is a camp and kids tend to get dirty before they go home for the day.  Also, it would be best if bathing suits are worn underneath the camper's regular clothing to switch in and out of quickly. For more information go to links ,  and click

Q:  When is it appropriate for my day camper to wear sandals?


It is only appropriate to wear sandals, crocs, water shoes during designated water slide and sprinkler times.  All other times we expect all campers to be in active sneaker wear to prevent any type of foot injury. For more information go to links , and click

Q:  Do Day/Open Campers have to wear their camp shirt everyday?
  

NO , Day Campers do not.
YES , Open Campers must wear their camp shirt on the BIG TRIP days for safety and identification purposes.
